The Ole Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling

As I look at this image, I vividly remember the times when my father took me to his workplace (JP Santos) in the 80s. The smell diesel mixed with the muddy water of the Demerara, the bustling passengers, my mini-copper bicycle, the excitement – sweet memories.

I got to ride my little chopper (bicycle) with the training wheels all the way to the stelling and into the boat – the Makouria.

Sometimes on our return trip there would be acrobatic performances and travelers will put coins into the cups of the performers.
