December 31, 2023

As the clock strikes midnight, ushering in the promise of a new year, Guyanese from all walks of life are setting their sights on 2024 with a commitment to self-care and health.

ThingsGuyana spoke to several individuals who shared their aspirations for the coming year.

Lydia Roberts: A Year Dedicated to Transformation

Lydia Roberts, a recent graduate of the University of Guyana, expressed her excitement for the upcoming year. She outlined her resolutions to enhance her well-being.

Lydia Roberts

The New Year is all about new beginnings. My 2024 will be dedicated to improving my health, prayers, and travel experiences. I have a desire to visit new places and make new memories, adding to my album of experiences. I’m very excited to witness the transformation of my life all through 2024.

Cardel Hunte: Seizing Opportunities and Achieving Goals

Cardel Hunte emphasised the importance of seizing opportunities and working towards personal goals in the coming year.

Cardel Hunte

I am looking forward to taking full advantage of all the opportunities that will come my way in 2024. I believe that I will move ahead in my purpose and step even closer to achieving my goals.

Kerese Gonsalves: Cultivating Well-Being Through Conscious Self-Care

For Kerese Gonsalves, the lessons learned and challenges overcome in 2023 have paved the way for a new focus on self-care in 2024.

Kerese Gonsalves

Without a doubt, 2023 has been a year of learning and overcoming challenges. I’ve decided to make self-care a conscious priority for the coming year for the sake of well-being and personal development. This deliberate commitment provides a means to improve my physical well-being while also cultivating a more aware and balanced way of living. This goal focuses more on the quality than the quantity of time spent on self-care activities, which include more spiritual pursuits…what’s self-care and well-being without being a God-fearing Girlie? Through this conscious effort, I hope to cultivate resilience, reduce stress, and ultimately contribute to an overall sense of happiness and fulfillment throughout the course of 2024.

Ronald Taylor: A Call for Health and Wellness Prioritisation

Ronald Taylor, who recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, called for prioritising health and wellness in the new year.

Ronald Taylor

It’s quite often that every end of the year, we have a list of dos and don’ts. Some include things we want to accomplish in the upcoming year – whether achievable at the time or not. I think one of the main things for me, and I’m sharing it so others can follow, is for us to truly prioritise our health and wellness, whether mental or physical. There is the popular saying, ‘Health is Wealth,’ but how many of us treat our bodies as a priority? So, for this new year, take regular checkups, at least a quarter annually, just to ensure you’re not running at a risk of experiencing any massive health defect that becomes too uncontrollable. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Most of all, have a great New Year.

As we bid farewell to the challenges and triumphs of 2023, the dawn of 2024 beckons a fresh start. The resolutions shared by these individuals reflect a collective desire for positive change, growth, and well-being.

Whether embracing new experiences, seizing opportunities, or prioritising self-care, the resolutions for the coming year signify a commitment to personal development and a hopeful anticipation of a brighter future.

May 2024 be a year of fulfillment, joy, and the realisation of aspirations for all. Happy New Year!
