Carlos De Cunha’s passion for technology has led him down the path of launching his own business, “Computing Core,” which is focused on software development.

Reminiscing on his childhood, De Cunha relayed that from a young age, he always had a passion for technology. He recalled his dad telling him how “inquisitive” he was as a child.

“He reminded me how I used to take apart little gadgets and toys around the house, just to understand how it works,” Carlos fondly recalls.

The businessman attended the Rama Krishna Primary School and then moved on to the North Georgetown Secondary School as a result of the Secondary School’s Entrance Examination. At the age of 15, Carlos became an apprentice, working alongside a Television Technician as he learned the trade.

 “The TV Tech I used to assist was migrating; he offered the computer to me for $50,000. On that day, my pop left home with my mom to deliver an order for one of his customers, all the money he collected from the goods he sold he spent on my first computer. Of course, it was a CRT monitor back then. It was a color 14″ monitor. The PC was running Windows 95 and came with just 8MB RAM,” Carlos recalls.

After completing his secondary education in 2000, Carlos proceeded to the Government Technical Institute (GTI), where he spent three (3) years studying Radio and Electronics.

“It was at GTI, I gained much knowledge on the principles of electronics which I have been applying to real scenarios since I started my career,” the businessman recalled.

Immediately after completing his studies at GTI, Carlos started his first job as a Technician at a Store and commenced studying again, but this time through distance learning. After some six (6) years of studies, Carlos got certified and learned skills in security and networking, among others.

According to Carlos, in 2014, he took a leap of faith and launched his business, offering personal computer repairs and networking services, but in 2016, he switched their focus to software development.

Computing Core services include Custom Desktop software development, Custom Web-app development, Web Design, and Point of Sale (POS)/Inventory Management Software setup.

“The information collected from a POS system or any business app is the greatest asset in your business as it contains data on how your business is performing,” the entrepreneur said.

He added, “If analyzed properly, you can get great insight on what your fast/slow-selling items are so you can know what areas to focus on. It’ll tell you when to order stock by utilizing reorder points, so you don’t lose sales and will help you reduce losses which can occur through theft.”

 When asked what makes his business stand out from his competitors, the businessman said that;

“Most of the POS software providers locally offer off-the-shelf software packages like QuickBooks, Peachtree, etc. Computing Core offers fully customized solutions that are tailored to the way we do business in Guyana.“

Moreover, Carlos shared that he has seen an increase in growth and interest from the local business community as well as business owners who are realizing the importance of a reliable system to collect and analyze data.

In summation, Carlos thanked his parents for their support provided in his initial years of studies.

My pop bought me my first computer; I would never forget that day. I extend much thanks to my Wife for always standing beside me in all endeavors. She is my support and one of the persons I always bounce ideas off before I make any big decisions.

Carlos said that Computing Core is always brainstorming ideas on the next innovative software package that they can release.

“We are always working on something that can automate processes, increase sales, accountability, and efficiency by saving time for businesses and business owners,” he concluded.
