The “Introduction To Disaster Risk Management Course” aims at equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge and practicality of disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.

Senior Response Officer of CDC, Captain Salim October, in welcoming the participants, assured that the training would ensure competency in the critical areas of Disaster Management and Civil Defence Training with military standards.

The nineteen (19) Ensigns who are drawn from the Defence Forces of Guyana, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, Belize, and locally from the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) were charged to diligently apply themselves so that they can become certified with the acceptable passing grade at the close of the course.

CDC stated that it notes that it is important to train as many persons as possible and envisions an ongoing Disaster Risk Management process by those who are tasked with critical support in Guyana and the wider Caribbean. The course will conclude on Friday.
