About Comfort Sleep Guyana

Comfort Sleep Guyana came into existence on the 1st of August, 2003 when Slumbersleep, moved office. After SlumberSleep left Guyana, there was a market gap and always a businessman, Mr. Charran saw this as an opportunity to be his own boss. Since Mr. Charran had worked for SlumberSleep as a Production Manager, he had a fair idea of the industry, and so started the business enterprise that is today known to all as Comfort Sleep Guyana. The factory at 49 Eccles, Industrial Estate, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was purchased and business started. Today, Comfort Sleep is Guyana’s leading mattress company, prized for its products and their quality.

About Mr. Dennis Charran

Mr. Dennis Charran is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Comfort Sleep. He started as a small importer of chowmein, soap, flour, and toothpaste in 1980 and eventually started a partnership with companies in Trinidad and Tobago, one such company is the Twin-Island Republic. The partnership between the Twin-Island Republic and Mr. Charran led to the export of unique pieces of clothing and the profits from that business were used to purchase car parts and pharmaceutical items that were sold right here in Guyana.

In 1994, Mr. Charran began importing foam sheets and mattresses and from the profits garnered, he was able to open a store in La Penitence, Georgetown retailing foam and mattresses, household appliances, among other items in which was the beginning of Comfort Sleep.

However, like anyone else, Mr. Charran is a business-oriented man with a fresh perspective and approach to business. He believes that the prevailing economic predicament in the most developed countries is going to affect Guyana. As such, he has been putting stringent measures in place to ensure that Comfort Sleep, be the best in the business, and without a shallow of a doubt, his measures are becoming fruition.

Charitable Work of the Company

Mr. Charran may be required to make some tough decisions at the managerial level, but he is kindhearted and has a great passion for children. His passion for the welfare of children and others has been demonstrated through numerous charitable activities throughout the year for the past 30 years and counting. Some of the activities include assisting the less fortunate and differently-abled persons. In regards to differently-abled persons, the company started assisting the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre by holding Christmas parties for the children housed by the centre and also those visiting for therapy.

The Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre (PRRC) is a not-for-profit organisation providing rehabilitation services for children with physical/developmental disabilities, amputees, and persons with hearing impairment. Besides, the company charitable work did not end at the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre as the company had also embarked upon a feeding programme in Malgre Tout, West Bank Demerara (WBD) which was initiated by the Malgre Tout Catholic Church.

However, as the feeding programme expanded, the church decided to move the programme to more schools on the West Bank of Demerara with La Grange and Bagotville, Parfaite Primary Schools being the latest beneficiaries with meals three days per week. Further, the feeding programme along with an annual Christmas party was taken all the way to the Edun-Burg and Friends Primary Schools in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice – Corentyne).

Comfort Sleep is not only recognised for its commitment to quality products and services within its beautiful homeland but also abroad.
