Hull for Guyana’s third oil production vessel launched

September 1, 2020

China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) shipyard has delivered the Liza Prosperity hull, the second one to be built under SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward program for the ExxonMobil-operated Stabroek Block, offshore Guyana.

SBM Offshore was awarded contracts to perform Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for the Prosperity FPSO back in November 2019.  The construction of the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) Prosperity hull started in January 2019 and will have 220,000 barrels per day capacity, same as the Liza Unity FPSO.

The FPSO Prosperity will have an associated gas treatment capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day and a water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day.

Prior to government approvals and project sanction, the contract award initiated a limited release of funds to begin FEED activities and secure the Fast4Ward hull.

The vessel is a ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier) size floating facility with double hull protection, with approximate dimensions of 340m long by 60m wide by 33m deep (1,115 ft long by 197 ft wide by 108 ft deep). It will be moored approximately 207 km (128 miles) offshore Guyana in the Payara-Pacora area at the Stabroek Block.

The project will utilize onshore infrastructure, which includes shore bases, warehouses, storage and pipe yards, fabrication facilities, fuel supply facilities, and waste management facilities in Guyana.

The Payara development project will be ExxonMobil’s 3rd project offshore Guyana.
