Having embarked on her beauty career in 2016, there is no limit to what Duesbury can do, as she holds several professional hats. Growing up, the budding make-up artist said that she was always an all-rounder as she partaken in numerous activities spanning from singing, dancing, running, modeling. Not forgetting, she is a beauty with brains.

I loved creating with my hands. I did my own little creations, such as headbands for church and beaded necklaces. I also enjoyed playing in my mom’s make-up at an early age. Multitasking was a major routine for me since I tend to get bored easily, just doing one activity. Hence being an all-rounder and having the art of multitasking embedded in me eventually moulded me into the businesswoman I am today desiring to control more than one business at once.

The young woman attended the North Georgetown Primary School and then the St. Roses High School. After achieving eight (8) subjects at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), Shaunell then moved on to study the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), where she was successful in her four subjects.

Not satisfied there, Shaunell then pursued studies in optometry at the University of Guyana

“As a young girl, I was enticed by make-up due to being engrossed watching my mom apply her make-up for years. This tempted my bravery to sneak and play with my mom’s make-up. I began singing at the tender age of 4-year-old. I loved dressing myself by putting my own pieces together.”

She added, “I often got in trouble for searching through magazines, etc., to keep up with what’s trending in fashion. Whenever my parents lost my attention, it was lost to crafting or creating something new with my hands.”

The same passion she had during her childhood led to her starting her business in 2016 under the name “Shunz Royal make-up artistry and handmade designs and the freaky bar.”

I made a decision I wanted my businesses to link to my talents and to be extended along the line where my passion lies. As a result, my evolution came from me gaining visions and being confident to bring each vision to life to view every new business venture as a new adventure. Creating gives me pleasure, joy, peace, and happiness. I find creating to be my own therapy. hence I wanted my business to be along the line of what I love doing.

Despite her hunger for success and overcoming challenges, this beautician said that one issue she faces is becoming tired from multitasking.

“I’m very much a workaholic when it comes to my businesses; hence the majority of my time is dedicated to my businesses …however, I have a natural drive in me that keeps the fuel going. Time balancing due to me completing my studies and also running multiple businesses tends to become frustrating and interruptive with the correct time distributions being applied to my businesses,” she noted.

Some of the services offered by Shaunell are make-up artistry, handmade designs of headbands, floral crowns, wire bras, and other handmade accessories, along with mouth watering delicious freak shakes. But while profits are essential for some business owners, customer satisfaction is critical for Shaunell.

The satisfaction of my customers is more important to me than just having a financial gain. My preference is to leave an everlasting impression on my clients’ life through my creativity and my talents from my hands. I allow my creativity to speak when it comes to my hands. God created each of us as unique special beings; hence our hands are not the same.

The young entrepreneur attributes her success to God, as she noted that she would have never been successful without him.
