CEMB looking to give school dropouts another chance

September 1, 2020

The College of Excellence, Management and Business (C.E.M.B.), in collaboration with Critchlow Labour College, is urging school drops and young persons to avail themselves to the opportunity and join their Ministry of Education and Public Service Recognized, ABE Endorsed and Awards, High School Diploma in Matriculation Studies (Grades 7-9/CSEC Level, English, Mathematics, Law, Principles of Business, Accounts, and Management).

The opportunity aims to put young and mature persons, especially members of the public and protective services that do not have the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Subjects or good grades, on a path to university or the world of works.

The principal of the institution, Dr. Stanley A. V. Paul says that the institution recognizes the plea and cries of this neglected segment of our population and designed the High School Diploma as a prestigious and credible solution to reduce if not eradicate this trend.

“We realized there is a segment of public servants, joint services personnel and students who exit the Secondary Schools’ Systems, at Grade Nine without any formal qualifications, so C.E.M.B. has decided to develop this high school diploma and got the renowned ABE-UK, involved to give the qualification local and international recognition and prestige.”

Moreover, not being satisfied with ABE’s Endorsement alone, though the same is adequate for the purpose, he wrote to the Ministry of Education and Public Service and asked them to recognize the qualification.

They did a comparative study of its curriculum and quality assurance of delivery that culminated in them formally recognizing the qualification as a Grade Nine Exit Qualification.

“In addition to the above, deliberate efforts were also made to recruit lecturers from QC and President’s College who are not only CPCE trained and UG qualified with good grades in the respective subject areas for which they were recruited to teach but also have postgraduate degrees, in them as well.” He cited.

Further, he added, “because the qualification is awarded by ABE-UK. Students can seamlessly transition over to ABE level four/level five Diploma or matriculate straight into a bachelor’s degree program from one of ABE’s hundreds of affiliated universities”.

Students also have the option, subsequently, to graduating with the diploma to spend an additional six months and write four CSEC’s subjects since the diploma curriculum is a peg to CSEC or moves on to the world of works in the public-private sector.
