Moblissa: A Community Unlike Any Other

Many communities are founded on shared histories and common futures. However, the village of Moblissa, nestled along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, boasts a unique blend of people from all corners of Guyana. This diversity made it a tightly-knit community unlike any other.

Despite its challenges, residents have forged strong bonds, turning strangers into lifelong friends who proudly call this village home.

A TAPESTRY OF DIVERSITY

With a population of over 300, Moblissa is predominantly a farming community. The village features essential amenities like a school and health center and is surrounded by vast farmlands stretching along the Moblissa road.

Despite its modest size, the community’s diversity and unity shine through, creating a harmonious environment cherished by its residents.

LENNOX STUART: A STORY OF COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

Lennox Stuart arrived in Moblissa over 15 years ago and was initially employed as a farm caretaker. Over the years, he became deeply involved in the community, playing a pivotal role in establishing the first policing group.

His dedication to the village’s welfare is a testament to the strong community spirit that defines the village.

COLLEN MARKS: NURTURING ROOTS

Collen Marks has lived in Moblissa for over twenty years, following her father’s decision to move the family there. Despite the challenges facing the village, including a high rate of high school dropouts and limited job opportunities for youths, Collen remains committed to her community. She highlighted the need for support and development initiatives.

WINSTON KISSON: ADVOCATING UNITY FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Winston Kisson, a resident for six years, emphasises the importance of unity in Moblissa. He believes that cooperation among villagers is crucial for the community’s development. Winston’s efforts to rally the community for change underscore his unwavering commitment to Moblissa’s progress.

DENISE CORNELIUS: EMBRACING CHANGE

Denise Cornelius, a resident for around 30 years, has witnessed the community’s recent development firsthand. Despite challenges such as poor road conditions and limited access to water, Denise remains optimistic about the future. Furthermore, she noted the positive changes taking place in the community.

LEON WATTSON: A YOUTH’S HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW

Leon Wattson, a 17-year-old resident, dreams of a future with more job opportunities in Moblissa. Despite the challenges he faces, including limited access to vocational training, Leon remains determined to build a better life for himself in his beloved village.

Rolston Reece, a lifelong farmer, epitomises the village’s agricultural heritage. His deep connection to the land and passion for farming highlight the village’s rich agricultural traditions and its potential for sustainable growth.
