Lifestyle Of Persons Residing In Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice (Region 10)

The inland region of Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice contains the largest portion of the hilly sand and clay area. In the White Sands area, you will find Guyana’s principal bauxite deposits. In the ‘bauxite region’ people would work mainly with bauxite companies such as Linmine (at Linden and Ituni) and Bermine (at Everton and Kwakwani). After extraction, the bauxite is exported to make aluminum. One fascinating thing about this region is that a small portion of the Iwokrama Rainforest Project is located here. You will find cattle-rearing and forestry done on a minor scale. These economic activities are very important since they provide the people who live in this region with the means to make a living and they also aid in the paying for schools and hospitals.
