The Critchlow Labour Collage (CLC) – has become one of the leading training institute in the country since its establishment in 1967.

Programmes are offered in three faculties namely: Guyana Climate Change and Food Security Institute (GCCFSI), Centre for Agricultural & Environmental Studies (CAES) and Center for Business Excellence (CBE)

Guyana Climate Change and Food Security Institute (GCCFSI)

The GCCFSI mission is to provide innovative and effective scientific contributions to reduce hunger, poverty and achieve food security, contributing towards the progress of Millennium Developmental Goals, Achieving this mission requires careful analysis and science-supported identification of effective and efficient policy, technical and institutional responses, including impact assessment. Using a multidisciplinary approach through teaching, the GCCFSI will conduct research and providing policy advice in cooperation with national and international development organizations and partner Higher Education Institutes in the developing world.

Centre for Agricultural & Environmental Studies (CAES)

This centre was created with the aim of “allowing people the opportunity to be involved in Agriculture and to realize their full potential to create wealth and at the same time preserve and conserve the environment for future generations”. In this regard, CLC continues to render quality demand-driven training and the collage has reviewed its program and is offering more specific and relevant training for the sector which is reflective of the industry needs. Under the CAES and in collaboration with other Universities the CLC is now offering the following Courses:

  • Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture
  • Certificate in Sustainable Forestry
  • Certificate in Fisheries and Aquaculture
  • Certificate in Sustainable Mining
  • /PG Diploma in Food Security and Climate Change.

Center for Business Excellence (CBE)

The aim of the Center for Business Excellence (CBE) is to develop and maintain a proactive culture of continuous improvement and professional development that encourages efficiency, effectiveness, and economy within the Business and Financial sectors while promoting service excellence. In addition, CBE will champion the entrepreneurial development across sectors and the micro and small enterprise development. The courses offered under the center includes:

  1. Master’s in Business (MB)
  2. Certificate in Industrial and Social Studies (ISS)
  3. Certificate in Further Access to Education (CFAE)
  4. Certificate in Child Care and Care of the Elderly (CCCE)
  5. Certificate in Management and Organizational Development (CMOD)
  6. Certificate in Communication and Effective Speaking and Writing (CCES&W)
  7. Certificate in Social Work (CSW)
  8. Certificate in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations (CHRM&IR)
  9. Certificate in Computerized Accounting (CCA)
  10. Certificate Occupational Safety and Health (COSA)
  11. Certificate in Labour Policies (CPL)
  12. Certificate in Cosmetology (CCos)

Except for (1) and (2) all the other Programmes are 4-6 months duration in the evening from 17:00hrs to 20:30 hrs. ISS is a one year programme and is the CLC flagship programme and is accepted entrance qualification at the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Guyana. The MB is a post graduate programme aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills is the business sector.

At the institute’s 40th convocation whereby over 170 students graduated, Minister within the Ministry of Education Nicolette Henry cautioned students that having a good qualification is not enough. She insisted soft skills and expertise must also be required to perform excellently on the job and they must make use of the diversity of pathways.

Over the years, CLC continues to grow and improve in offering quality services that will better the economy as a whole.
